Campbell is the denser, more down-to-earth city just north of us, built largely in the 1950s and 60s around a genuine small downtown on Campbell Avenue. Lots are modest, the housing is consistent, and the city has seen an enormous amount of remodelling and additional-unit work over the last decade.
Campbell sends us a question no other town asks as often: should this still be a garage at all? A great many of these garages have been converted into living space, offices or additional units, and that leaves an existing door in an opening that is now a wall — or a door that has to keep working while the space behind it is no longer a garage. We are straight about the options: keep a functioning door for the look and the resale, replace it with an insulated non-operating panel, or frame the opening properly. What we will not do is fit a working door to an opening where it makes no sense and take the money.
